Interlibrary Loan
ILLiad is an online system that allows you to
initiate and track your interlibrary loan requests through the Web. Log in to ILLiad to place requests for material, get information about the status of your requests (current and previous), request renewals, and receive electronic articles. You may create your account from this page as well. Click "First Time Users" at the bottom of the page.
You must be a member of the ACPHS community and have an ILLiad account to place requests. Visit the ILLiad log in screen and click First Time Users to set up your personal account. You may choose your own user name and password. The Library will verify that you are a current and in good standing member of the the ACPHS community before activating your account.
The primary purpose of interlibrary loan (ILL) is to provide ACPHS students, faculty, administration, and staff with needed material that is unavailable in our library. The conditions of ILL services are set by local agreements, the policies of individual libraries, the National Interlibrary Loan Code, and the Copyright Law of the United States.
ILL services can obtain articles, books, and other media. There is no limit to the number of requests an individual may submit. Items that are not usually available through ILL include: whole issues/volumes of journals; films, DVDs, and videos; CDs; maps; software and CD-ROMs; rare, fragile, and special collection books; reference books; and some dissertations.
For students, requested materials should be related to their course of study and/or research; however, the Library will not obtain textbooks to replace the purchase of personal copies required by a class. For faculty, staff, and administration, requested materials should support the research or official work done within the scope of the mission of the College.
ILL services should not be used to obtain materials for personal matters. The Interlibrary Loan staff will refer persons making such requests to their local public library.
ILL services are provided free of charge to College community members; however, the individual user will be liable for lost, damaged, or overdue material. The lending library will determine costs, fines, and processing fees.
Before submitting a request please check local holdings for availability.
For journal articles check online availability by visiting our E-Journals page. If the journal title is not found here, search the Library Catalog for print availability at ACPHS.
For books check the Library Catalog for availability at ACPHS.
Albany students may also wish to check Albany Medical College's catalog. If the book is available there the fastest way to get it may be to go to AMC yourself. The ACPHS community may check out up to 2 books at a time from AMC. If the item is not available please send your request to the Library.
We will make every effort to complete your requests but in some cases lending libraries may refuse our requests (i.e., requests for entire journal issues, reference books, fragile items, and audiovisuals are often denied). Please consult a staff member if you have a question about the availability of a particular item.
Your request will be processed as quickly as possible, but exactly when you will receive the material depends on the lending library. Local libraries may process loans in less than a week. Requests processed out of the area may take up to two weeks.
To renew borrowed items, log in to ILLiad and choose View Checked Out Items/Renew. Please request your renewal several days in advance of the due date. In the event that the lending library does not grant your renewal, this will allow you to return those materials to us on time. Renewal periods will vary according to the lending library's policies.
ILL service is provided free of charge to Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences students, faculty, and staff. You are held responsible, however, for any charges by lending libraries for materials you lose or return late or damaged.
Please Ask-A-Librarian for assistance. Assistance can also be obtained by calling (518) 694-7350 or by email at ill@acphs.edu.
